I have been spending this week setting up my behavior system for next year and I wanted to share what I figured out. The noise meter is something I tried in the spring but set up too quickly and it kind of just happened without intention. This time I am doing it deliberately before day one. What I did: I wrote three classroom norms around noise levels and attached them to the levels on the meter. So my students will know from day one what each level means and what the expectation is. The two-week rule before judging it is important. I tried the noise meter for 3 days in November, decided it was not working, and stopped. Reading this I realize I did not give it a fair trial. Trying again properly this fall.
