## Our standard

WiseBoard targets **WCAG 2.2 Level AA**, **Section 508** of the US
Rehabilitation Act (as updated by the 2018 ICT Refresh), and the relevant
clauses of **EN 301 549 v3.2.1**. We design every new feature against these
standards by default and audit existing surfaces on a rolling 12-month
cycle.

## What is documented

| Document | Format | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Accessibility Statement | HTML — `/accessibility` | District-facing W3C-template statement |
| VPAT 2.4 — Main product | PDF — `/trust/vpat-2.4.pdf` | Dashboard, Lessons, Performance Tracker, public surfaces |
| VPAT 2.4 — Pip's Arcade | Markdown — `/trust/vpat-2.4-arcade.md` | Companion VPAT for the student game suite |
| Arcade Keyboard Reference | Markdown — `/trust/arcade-keyboard-reference.md` | Per-game keyboard map for AT trainers |
| April 2026 Audit Report | Markdown — `/trust/accessibility-audit-2026-04.md` | Methodology, per-page findings, fixes shipped |

## April 30, 2026 — Arcade audit pass

The Pip's Arcade companion VPAT closed its remaining **Medium and High**
backlog items in the April 30, 2026 audit pass. Four WCAG criteria were
promoted from "Partially Supports" → "Supports" in this pass: **1.1.1**
Non-text Content, **1.4.3** Contrast (Minimum), **1.4.11** Non-text
Contrast, and **4.1.3** Status Messages. These build on **2.3.3**
Animation from Interactions, which was promoted in the April 28, 2026
pass. The remaining open items are all Low severity — no Medium or High
items remain open in either the main product VPAT or the Arcade
companion VPAT.

## April 30, 2026 — Path C audit pass (cognitive, hearing, motor)

The April 30, 2026 pass extends the "no Medium or High items remain open"
posture from visual disabilities (closed in the Path B pass on April 28,
2026) to **cognitive, hearing, and motor** disabilities. Six user-facing
changes anchor the pass:

1. **Hearing — district demo video transcript.** Plain-text transcript
published at `/trust/demo-video-transcript.md` and linked from the
Trust Center docs index. Equivalent text experience for deaf,
   hard-of-hearing, low-bandwidth, and screen-reader-only viewers
   (WCAG 1.2.1).
2. **Cognitive — Plain Language mode.** Per-device Settings toggle
swaps 20 high-traffic system strings (buttons, validation messages,
empty states, session-timeout copy) for shorter, simpler equivalents
   (WCAG 3.1.5 AAA — voluntary).
3. **Cognitive — reading-level guardrail on AI-drafted parent
messages.** Flesch–Kincaid grade computed at draft time, returned
in the API response, and logged server-side. Bands: ok ≤ grade 9,
   soft-warn 9.1–12, hard-warn > 12. The API never refuses to return
a draft — the score is for trend monitoring of model regressions
today; surfacing the score in the composer UI for teachers is on
   the Q3 2026 roadmap (WCAG 3.1.5 AAA — voluntary).
4. **Cognitive — client-side idle-timeout warning.** Global idle hook
(default 28-minute idle window + 2-minute grace) + polite live
region warning dialog with explicit "Stay signed in" / "Sign out"
choices. This is a browser-side idle warning that calls the auth
provider's `logout()` if the grace period elapses; it is not
coupled to server session expiry (WCAG 2.2.1).
5. **Hearing / cognitive — multilingual parent content tagging.** Every
   translated parent-view message body now carries a BCP-47 `lang`
attribute (full 20-language picker coverage) so screen readers
switch voice profiles for non-English content. Adds WCAG 3.1.2 to
   the main product VPAT.
6. **Visual — color-blind audit on the Performance Tracker.** Behavior
chart and Standards Mastery already pair color with text; Gradebook
letter-grade progress bar updated to add a tier-specific stripe
   pattern, `role="img"` + `aria-label`, and a `data-grade-tier`
   attribute. Refreshes WCAG 1.4.1.

**Net effect:** WiseBoard now has documented support for accessibility
across the four major disability categories — **visual, hearing, motor,
and cognitive** — with no Medium or High items remaining open in the
audited surfaces. Path B (visual) closures, Path C (cognitive / hearing
/ motor) closures, and the AAA-bonus reading-level documentation are
visible in both VPATs and in this commitments document.

## Specific commitments

- **Conformance audits.** Internal audit + third-party-format VPAT update
every 12 months at minimum, plus an out-of-cycle audit on any major UI
refactor. Most recent audit: April 26, 2026 (main product) and April
  30, 2026 (Pip's Arcade companion).
- **Continuous regression guard.** Two CI checks run on every change to
the classroom app: `classroom-a11y-lint` (jsx-a11y rules promoted from
warn to error for image alt text and anchor validity) and
`classroom-a11y-axe` (jest-axe assertion of zero serious / critical
violations on the rendered DOM of all 3 public pages and all 15
  audited authenticated teacher pages).
- **AT compatibility testing.** NVDA + Firefox / Chrome on Windows,
VoiceOver + Safari on macOS and iPadOS, TalkBack + Chrome on Android,
JAWS + Chrome on Windows; Voice Control on macOS / iPadOS, Voice
Access on Android; Apple Switch Control with single- and two-switch
  scanning.
- **Reduced-motion support.** The OS `prefers-reduced-motion` preference
is honored on every animated UI surface, including all 3D arcade
canvases (Boss Battle, Jeopardy board / cinematic, Quest 3D preview,
Survivor tribal council / cinematic) and the eight shared `game-3d/*`
  components they compose.
- **Keyboard operability.** Every primary teacher workflow — dashboard,
classes, Performance Tracker, lessons, attendance, behavior, parent
contacts — is fully keyboard-operable. The 3D Jeopardy board ships a
  DOM accessibility overlay so that a keyboard-only / screen-reader
teacher can run a full game without seeing the screen.
- **Screen-reader status messaging.** SR-only `aria-live="polite"`
regions announce gameplay events that students with low vision would
otherwise miss: Horse Racing leader / winner, Two-Minute Drill
touchdowns, Escape Room escapes, Jeopardy buzz-ins and adjudication,
  Boss Battle first-hit / crit / boss-defeated, Survivor tribal-council
  eliminations.

## How to report a barrier

Email **info@mywiseboardclassroom.com** with subject line
`Accessibility`. Include the page URL, a description of the barrier, the
assistive technology and browser you are using, and (if you are
comfortable) a screenshot or screen recording.

- **Acknowledgement SLA:** 2 business days.
- **Remediation plan SLA:** 10 business days.
- **P1 SLA:** any barrier preventing a teacher from completing a core
workflow is treated as a P1 issue and resolved on the standard
  production-incident SLA.

## Procurement add-ons available on request

- Signed letter of accessibility commitment for inclusion in the
  district's vendor file.
- Demonstration call with assistive-technology testing.
- State-specific exhibit language (CA Gov. Code § 11135, NYS-P08-005,
  PA student-information-system accessibility expectations, etc.).
