Community Guidelines
WiseBoard's teacher community forum is a place for educators to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from each other. These Community Guidelines describe the behavior we expect from everyone who posts, comments, votes, or otherwise participates. They supplement (and are enforced under) our Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service.
1.Be kind, be useful, assume good faith
Most members are practicing teachers asking real questions about real classrooms. Reply the way you'd want a colleague to reply to you in the staff room. Disagreement is welcome; contempt is not. If a post frustrates you, take a beat before replying ; and if you can't be respectful, just close the tab.
2.Protect student privacy
The forum is a public-facing community. Do not post personally identifiable information (PII) about students or families, including names, photos, screenshots that include names, student IDs, grades, IEP/504 details, behavior incidents tied to an identifiable child, or anything that could re-identify a specific student. Use anonymous descriptors ("a 7th-grader in my second-period class") instead.
This rule applies even if a parent has given you general permission to share their child's work ; that permission almost certainly does not extend to a public ed-tech forum, and it never extends to FERPA- protected education records. When in doubt, leave it out.
3.No identifying colleagues, students, or parents
Don't name or identify a specific colleague, administrator, parent, or district in a complaint or criticism post. Vent in generalities ("my admin recently changed our grading policy") rather than identifying the individual or institution. Posts that appear to target a specific identifiable person may be removed without notice.
4.Prohibited content
The following will be removed and may result in account suspension or termination under our Acceptable Use Policy:
- Sexual content, sexualization of minors, or any content depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM ; we report to NCMEC under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A);
- Harassment, hate speech, threats, or content that targets a person or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or veteran status;
- Content that promotes self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders;
- Spam, scams, "growth hacks," referral-link farming, MLM/pyramid recruiting, or undisclosed affiliate links;
- Promotion of, or recruitment for, competing products in a way that misleads readers about the source of the recommendation. Mentioning a competitor in an honest comparison is fine; astroturfing is not.
- Doxxing ; sharing someone's home address, personal phone number, school location, or other contact information without their consent;
- Unlawful content, including copyrighted materials posted without permission, malware, illegal substances, or weapons trafficking.
5.Self-promotion & teachers-pay-teachers links
We encourage members to share resources they've created, including links to their TeachersPayTeachers store, Substack, blog, or YouTube channel ; provided the post is primarily useful (a strategy, a tip, a template) rather than primarily promotional. As a rule of thumb: if a stranger reading the post would still get value even without clicking the link, you're fine. If the post would collapse without the link, it's an ad and will be removed.
Disclose paid relationships. If you're being compensated to mention a product, say so. Undisclosed sponsored content violates FTC endorsement rules (16 CFR Part 255) and these guidelines.
6.AI-generated content
You may use AI tools (including WiseBoard's Pip) to draft forum posts. We ask that you:
- Add value as a human ; review, edit, and add your own context before posting; raw, unedited AI output is rarely useful and is often removed as low-effort.
- Don't use AI to fabricate experience. Don't have AI invent a classroom anecdote, student response, or administrator quote that didn't happen. Honesty matters here.
- Follow Section 2. Even AI-summarized student stories must remain de-identified.
7.Voting, badges, and reputation
Up-votes are for "this is helpful" and down-votes are for "this is unhelpful or wrong" ; not for disagreement. Don't run vote-rings, ask others to up-vote your posts, or create alternate accounts to inflate your own reputation. Detected vote-manipulation results in vote rollback and may result in a permanent ban.
8.Reporting & enforcement
Every post and comment has a "Report" link. Reports are reviewed by WiseBoard staff. We may also act without a report when content is brought to our attention through monitoring, automated detection, or third-party notice.
Enforcement actions we may take, in escalating severity:
- Edit or remove the offending content;
- Issue a warning visible only to the member;
- Temporarily mute the member from posting (24 hours – 30 days);
- Permanently ban the member from the forum while leaving the WiseBoard account active;
- Suspend or terminate the WiseBoard account under our Terms of Service for severe or repeated violations.
Posts containing CSAM, credible threats of violence, or doxxing are removed immediately and reported to law enforcement as required.
9.Appeals
If your post was removed or your account was actioned and you believe it was a mistake, email info@mywiseboardclassroom.com with the subject line Forum appeal and a brief explanation. We aim to respond within 5 business days. Appeals related to legal takedowns (DMCA, court order, defamation) follow our DMCA & Counter-Notice process.
10.Changes to these guidelines
We may update these guidelines from time to time. Material changes will be announced in a pinned post in the forum's announcements category and noted by an updated version number at the top of this page.
